January 8, 1928 – January 3, 2018
Alma Henderson Peoples, 89, of Hixson, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning January 3, 2018, in a local healthcare center.
The daughter of the late James Jesse Henderson, Jr. and Cora Elizabeth Bailey Henderson, she was a member of Kimball Baptist Church. She was a former troop leader for the South Pittsburg Brownie and Cadet Girl Scout Troops and a former member of the South Pittsburg Home Demonstration Club. She loved her family, and held a special place in her heart for the Peoples side of her family. She was an avid reader, loved to play Bingo, and enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, and crafts. She also loved music, and was partial to Big Band music and classic musical movies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Leroy Peoples, an infant son, and one brother, Roy Lamar Henderson, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Peoples Talley of Hixson, Tennessee; brother, Joe Bailey Henderson, of Harrison, Tennessee; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Talley, and her fiance, Benjamin Bailey, of Hixson; grandson, Joseph Daniel Talley, and his fiance, Danielle East, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the East and West wings of Soddy Daisy Healthcare Center for their love and compassion. They would also like to thank Hearth Hospice for all of their help.
Funeral services will be held at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg, on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Central time, with Pastor Troy Luttrell officiating. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. Central time until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004 (www.lungusa.org), or to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Rd #102, Chattanooga, TN 37421-1972 (www.cancer.org).
