Mr. Almon Jefferson "AJ" Gudger, 81 of Kimball, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family.
The son of the late Sam B. and Omie Mae Bell Farmer Gudger, he owned and operated Gudger's Grocery in South Pittsburg for many years. He attended the Kimball Tabernacle of Praise and was also preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Layne Gudger; brothers, James Gudger, Willie "Punk" Gudger, Robert "Cotton" Gudger, Leland Gudger; and sister, Peggy Lorne "Totsie" Gudger.
He is survived by his children, David & Elizabeth Gudger of Kimball, Sammy & Brenda Gudger of Sequatchie, Janice & Dale Johnson and Regina Lambert all of South Pittsburg; grandchildren, Julie West of Stevenson, AL, Paige Gudger, Angie Peoples both of Kimball, Sam Gudger of Sequatchie, Jason Holt of Kimball, Becky Frizzell of Dunlap and Rikki Lambert of Stevenson; great-grandchildren, Mastien, McKinley and Ashlyn West, Railey and Natalie Holt, Chloe and Carley Frizzell; sister, Alma Smith of Kissimmee, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Kimball Tabernacle of Praise on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 11 AM CDT with Reverend Darrell Nunley and Brother David Gudger officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.
The family will gather with friends for visitation on Thursday, August 7 from 6-9 PM CDT and Friday from 9 AM until 9 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 AM until service time on Saturday.
