Obituary

Mr. Alvin Ray Ball, 86, of Guild, TN, died at his home on Saturday, April 14, 2012.
Born in Polk County to the late Alvin G. and Ola Kimsey Ball, he lived most of his life in Guild. Ray served in the US Navy during WWII, graduated from ETSU in 1952, received his Masters in Education from the University of Chattanooga in 1967, and taught in the Marion County School System for 31 years until retiring in 1990. He was a member and former Elder of the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of Olive Branch Lodge #297 F&AM, and a life member of the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Ball, and a sister, Louise Taylor Sebring.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Ball of Guild, three brothers, Harold Ball of Memphis, Clifford Dennis Ball of Loveland, OH, and David J. Ball of Harvest, AL, 9 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11:00am with Rev. James Patterson officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00pm Monday at the funeral home, with a Masonic Memorial service to be held at 8pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, Hospice of Chattanooga, or the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
