Mr. Andrew Kirt "A.K." Runyan, Jr., died at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN on Saturday, February 18, 2012. He was surrounded by his four loving daughters when he went home to be with the Lord.Mr. Runyan was born August 2, 1920 in Bridgeport, Alabama to the late Andrew Kirt and Tiny Emma Prayter Runyan. He met Norma Cloud, the love of his life, in 1940 and they were married for 58 years. He was above all, a loving husband and father.He served in the US Navy and was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. He will be remembered for his selfless love for those who were less fortunate. He had a real passion for the great American game of baseball. He was a cook, a gardener and a fisherman. He had an extraordinary work ethic and spent his entire career as owner of Runyan Decorators, the family business started by his father.He is survived by his four daughters, Judy Rutledge of Chattanooga, Carol (David) Cooper of Jasper, Elaine (Tom) Hundley of Lake City, FL and Anita (Tom) Decosimo of Signal Mountain, TN; sister, Nancy Metcalf of Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Donna Tally, Cherie Jones and Thomas Hundley III; three great-grandchildren and most recently, a great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma, and three siblings, Willie Mae Garland, Frances Redford and Leonard Runyan.Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Central time on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 with David Robertson officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, February 20, 2012 from 6-8pm Central at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.Condolences may be sent to the family at this website or may be mailed to 1209 Anderson Ridge Road, Jasper, TN 37347-6130.
