Obituary

Ann Lee Newsome Parker

May 22, 1933 - August 22, 2024

Jasper, Tennessee

Ann Lee Parker, 91, of Jasper, Tennessee, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

Ann was a very strong and independent woman.  When I say strong, this was during time where Army wives held the family together while their husbands, either in a war-torn country like Vietnam or as in our family's case, holding the fort down while their husbands were stationed state side on a base in another state and coming home on weekends.  She was strong and not a person to be played with.  When Dad retired from the military and life became "normal" they were inseparable.  They demonstrated to us what a marriage should be like, where their marriage came first and that provided such a safe home for us.  In 1976, we all moved to Tennessee and built their dream home on Sequatchie Mountain.  There, Dad retired and passed from us.  For approximately 20 years she lived on the mountain until she sold it because it was just too much to keep up.  There is nothing like a mother that loves and cares as she did.  And there was nothing to compare to a mom and a dad who loved each other so much and loved their children like parents should.  On behalf of myself, my brother and sister, and all the grandchildren – Thank you, Mom, for being who you were.  One day we will all be reunited and see you and Dad in each other's arms again.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Van Parker, Sr.; parents, Kenny Newsome and Susan McGaha Newsome; sister, Julia Taylor; brothers, Emmet Newsome and Corky Newsome.

Survivors include her children; Horace Van Parker, Jr. (Nancy), Gayle Parker, Donald W. Parker (Ferdelia); grandchildren, Leah (Ben) Hogon, Anna Parker, Corey Marshall, Joshua (Sarah) Parker, Joe (Sarah) Willis, Patricia (Travis) Reed and Helena (Davaughn) Richardson; six great-grandchildren.
