On February 1, 2021, Arlene Jones, age 88 celebrated her homegoing to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Arlene was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 7, 1932, but spent her formative years in the town of Elkhart, Texas. At the age of nine, Arlene gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ and was an active member of Brainerd Baptist Church where she served as a member of the choir.
Arlene was preceded in death by her father Lloyd Eugene Field, mother Gussie Marguerite Hogan Field, and Brother Lloyd Tolbert Field.
She is survived by her husband Earl Jones along with four sons David Marcus Holder, Samuel Wade Holder, Lloyd Michael Holder and Andrew Clayborne Jones, along with Daughters-in-Law, Janet Townsend Holder, Lynda Winberry Holder, and Rachel Jones, all of Texas.
Grandchildren include Darrel Harris, Kristen Holder Thomas, Leah Holder Barry, Chris Holder, Laura Katlyn Holder Ford, Luke Holder, along with six Great-Grand Children.
Arlene had a lifelong love for Christ, people, and learning. Everyone fortunate enough to meet Arlene were blessed by the beauty and warmth of one who was a reflection of Christ's love, as well as her love of people and learning.
Arlene's education included a Master's of Education with a Professional Reading Specialist K-12 from Stephen F.Austin University, Nacagdoches, Texas, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Houston, Houston, Texas. She also held a Career Ladder Level III Certification, from the Tennessee Department of Education as well as a Life Certificate as a reading specialist from the Texas Department of Education.
She was recognized in the 1996/1997 Edition of Who's Who in American Education and received a Certificate of Appreciation, from the Commander in Chief, United States Central Command, Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, H. Norman Schwrzkopf, General, U.S. Army.
During the years, 1982-1986,while teaching first grade, Arlene was a faculty representative to Marion County Teachers Association of the Marion County School District, Jasper.
Her professional education career included development of reading curriculums for intermediate grade levels and design of individualized learning systems for intermediate grade reading labs for various Texas school districts.
Her early education experience included work for the Clear Creek Independent School District as a second grade teacher at Webster Elementary where her students included the children of Apollo Astronaut Neil Armstrong.
A graveside service will be held at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 5, 2021, with Reverend Steve Rowland, of Brainerd Baptist Church officiating.
Pallbearers are Josh Huffstuddler, Ryan Meeks, Jason Turner, Jim McKee, Jimmy Griffith, Paul West and Dennis Showalter.
Honorary Pallbearers include Marcus Holder, Michel Holder, Wade Holder, Town of Jasper Fire Department, Jean Mekee, Dr. Allen Sherwood and family, and Hospice of Chattanooga Team West.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday, February 5, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at Rogers Funeral Home, 21 E Fifth St., Jasper. Graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm CST.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga and the Alzheimer's Association.
