Mrs. Bessie Hall Burrows, 96, of Bridgeport, AL died Sunday, February 15, 2015 in a local nursing home.
The daughter of the late Robert Alexander and Frances Mae Lusk Hall, she was a graduate of Jackson County High School and attended Florence State Teachers College in Florence, Alabama. She retired from the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, TN after more than 30 years of service as an illustrator and layout designer for technical publications. She was an avid basketball and baseball fan and enjoyed photography. She was also an active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church in South Pittsburg for many years. Bessie was a lovely Southern lady who loved her family.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Elmer, Floyd and Newman Hall; sisters, Fern Stewart, Fannie Mae Hughes, Gladys Brown, Ann Cravens and Euphie Haskew; nephews, Thomas F. Brown, Jr., Bobby Burrows and John Holland; niece, Eva Ruth Stewart Matthews; and great-nephew, James Edward Matthews.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Buford Burrows of Bridgeport, AL; nephews, John T. Hughes, William Nelson Stewart, Terry Hughes, Bobby Hall, John Haskew, Tim Haskew, Sammy Burrows, Buster Faris, Jim Holland, Wayne Burrows, Kim Burrows, and John Burrows; and nieces, Martha Pendley, Judy Hughes Solomon, Elizabeth Campbell, Perline Berry, Carolyn Headrick, Jan Brown, Teena Hewgley, Linda Rogers, Diana Chance, Andrea Halstead, Jan Hamock, Judy Lovell, and Jane Burrows.
Funeral services will be conducted at First Baptist Church, South Pittsburg, Tennessee at 1 pm Central time on Thursday, February 19, 2015 with Rev. Brad Bridgman officiating. Interment will be at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the church on Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm Central time.
