Billie L. Thurmond, 83, of Jasper, Tenn., died Thursday, May 14, 2015.

She was born in Victoria, Tenn., and graduated from Marion County High School in 1950. She later was a graduate of the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing.

A registered nurse, Billie was employed by Memorial Hospital of Chattanooga for 39 years. After retirement in 1993, she spent much of her time caring for her flowers and working in her garden.
Billie was an active member of Havron's Chapel United Methodist Church in Jasper and was blessed to be part of such a wonderful church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burlen Thurmond; a son, Kenneth Thurmond; her parents, Hoyle and Berniece Ross; and two sisters, Tula Mae Ross and Irene Raines.

She is survived by a son, Charles Thurmond, and a sister, Patsy LeRoy, both of Jasper.
Visitation at the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home will be Saturday from 3-6 p.m. CDT.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Diehl officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Adam Seadorf and Brian Seadorf, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Ben West, David Souders and Brandon Shadwick, of Jasper; and Brad Gibson, of South Pittsburg, Tenn.

Immeasurable gratefulness goes to the staffs at Memorial Hospital's intermediate care unit and heart and vascular center, along with those at Hospice of Chattanooga's care center. You are all angels.
