Obituary

Catherine Summers Barker, 89, of Jasper, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, in a Chattanooga hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Barker, an infant daughter, JoAnn Barker, one sister, Dorothy Whitlock, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Summers.She was a graduate of Marion County High School, Austin Peay College and Middle Tennessee State University. She taught school in Marion County for 30 years, and retired from Whitwell High School.She was an active member of The Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Jasper, where she taught a Sunday School Class and was the President of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry. She was a Charter Member and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Jasper V.F.W. Post 6362.She is survived by one daughter, Wanda Barker Gentry and her husband, Jim Gentry. Mrs. Barker is also survived by granddaughters, Melanie Huddleston (husband Howard Huddleston) and Mary Catherine Gentry, one grandson, Tom Thomas, one great-grandson, Jimmy Huddleston, one sister Ann Crabtree, as well as several nieces and nephews.Services will be conducted from the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Sunday, June 10, at 2:00 PM CDT, with Rev. Wayne Tompkins, Rev. Charlie Campbell and her nephew, Chief Justice Mickey Barker officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 7 PM CDT, at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper.Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.rogersfuneralhome.com.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 148 College Street, Jasper, TN 37347.
