Charles Franklin Chance, 71, of South Pittsburg, TN, died Friday in a Chattanooga hospital.
The son of the late Leonard Elmer and Ora Maude Walker Chance, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Jenny Gore, and two brothers, Willis and Jim Ed Chance.
Charles was the former owner of Western Auto in South Pittsburg and the Kimball Shell, had served as a City Commissioner, and retired from the Hickory Valley Retirement Center. An avid Tennessee Volunteers fan, he loved sports and fishing. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his son, Charles F. "Chuck" Chance, Jr.; daughter, Beverly (Cecil) Sutton both of South Pittsburg; brothers, Buddy Chance of Broadhead, WI, Don Chance of South Pittsburg and Bruce Chance of Kimball; former daughter-in-law, Rosemary Chance; grandchildren, Ben Sutton, Trey Chance, Autumn Chance and Ryan McCarver; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011, at 10:00am Central time from the chapel of Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg, with Rev. Ronnie Case and Rev. Darrell Nunley officiating. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Chance, Trey Chance, Ben Sutton, Leonard Gore, Jimmy Chance and Jerry Chance.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 14, from 3:00 to 7:00pm, Central time, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Rd #102, Chattanooga, TN 37421-1972 or a favorite charity.
