Charles E. Martin, Sr., 59, of South Pittsburg, TN went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2009 at 3:35pm. Charles, or "Weggie" as some call him, was born on August 8, 1950 in Richard City, Tennessee.
A graduate of South Pittsburg High School, where he played basketball, he was also a member of Mt. Bethlehem Baptist Church in South Pittsburg, TN where he served faithfully as an usher for over 16 years. As an avid fisherman, he caught the state record Largemouth Bass. Weggie was a former employee of TVA Bellefonte and Raccoon Mountain.
Son of the late John D. and Novella Green Martin, he was also preceded in death by brothers, John David Martin and Leon George Martin; and sister, Peggy Martin.
He leaves to mourn his wife for 39 years, Linda A. "Gail" Martin of South Pittsburg; sons, Charles Martin, Jr. of Jasper, TN Curtis Anthony (and special daughter-in-law, Pam) Martin of South Pittsburg; five grandchildren, Audra Wilson and Christin Martin of Chattanooga, TN, Trey Martin, Nia Martin and Faith Martin all of South Pittsburg; his sisters, Arlene Robinson of Bridgeport, AL and Annie Hartfort of Flint, MI; and his brothers, Thomas Martin and Bill Martin both of Chattanooga, TN; special sister-in-law, Debra Charles and friend, Wendi Johnson; special friends, Bill and Jan Hewgley.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 27th at 2:00 p.m. CST at Mt. Bethlehem Baptist Church in South Pittsburg, with Pastor Richard Smith officiating. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery, Kimball, TN.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 26th from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. CST at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
