Obituary

Charlsie Hargis Fitz-Gerald, long time resident of South Pittsburg passed away in Franklin, TN, Sunday, July 19, 2020.

She was born and raised in South Pittsburg where she attended South Pittsburg High School. She was captain of the girls basketball team and football sponsor.  She relocated to Manchester, TN, in 1952 with her husband Michael Fitz-Gerald returning with him and her children in 1971.  In 2014 she moved to Franklin to be with her daughter and son in law.

Charlsie was truly one of a kind. She loved the social scene, dancing, playing bridge, both party bridge and duplicate. One of her biggest wishes was to play with Omar Sheriff who was known as a master at the game. She just knew she could beat him. In her last years, she missed her friends terribly that had preceded her in death, but most importantly her beloved son, Mike Jr. who lived with her from 1994 until his sudden death in 2014.  She was never the same afterwards.

Charlsie was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Michael Fitz-Gerald, Michael Fitz-Gerald Jr. or "little Mike", her parents, William L. Hargis and Sudie Anderson Hargis, brothers Newton, George, and Melvin, sisters Mary Lee Groover, and Elma Lou Cain.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Baron, son in law John S. (Stan) Baron III, grandsons Technical Sergeant John S (JB) Baron IV USAF and wife Meredith of Willow Spring, NC, Alexander Dane Baron and wife Madison of Franklin, TN and great grandson Leo Baron, along with many nieces and nephews.

The Family will hold a private service at Christ Church Episcopal in South Pittsburg, TN on Saturday, July 25, 2020 with Reverend Kim Hobby officiating.  Burial will be at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, TN at approximately 11:30 am afterwards and they ask any and all of Charlsie's friends to attend.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations may be made to the Willowbrook Hospice, 235 Noah Drive, Franklin, TN, Christ Church Episcopal, South Pittsburg, TN or the Alzheimer's Association.
