Clara Nelle Woody Griffin Carmichael

Clara “Nelle” Woody Griffin Carmichael, age 91, of Bryant, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, October 19, 2026.

Nelle was a faithful member of Kimball Baptist Church and cherished her faith and time spent with her church family. She enjoyed listening to and playing many different types of musical instruments. Above all, Nelle treasured spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and friends. She touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Nelle was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William W. Carmichael; daughter, Delisa J. Hammons; parents, Rev. Phillip S. Woody and Katherine I. Cramer Woody; brothers, Phillip H. Woody, Hobert F. Woody, and Doyle Woody; and sister, Lila Forgey.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Hazel Johnson; children, Yvonne O’Linger, Carmen (Brad) Gore, Eddy (Nina) Griffin, and Jason (Jennifer) Griffin; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. (CDT) at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Bryant, Alabama, with Pastor Bruce Howland officiating. Nelle will be laid to rest at Harris Chapel Cemetery, Bryant, Alabama.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. (CDT) in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Charles R. Scharer, Brandon Scharer, River Griffin, and her great-grandsons.
