Mrs. Dorothy Moore Armstrong, 80, of Jasper, TN died peacefully as her son, Larry prayed the Rosary for her on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in Alexian Brothers Healthcare in Signal Mountain, TN.
The daughter of the late Claude D. and Essie Bishop Moore, she was a native of Chicago, Illinois she then lived and attended school in San Francisco, California. She and her late husband, Henry moved their family to Jasper in 1971 and she became a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in South Pittsburg, where she participated in the Ladies Auxiliary.
A wonderful mother, grandmother and cook, Dorothy was a very caring and compassionate soul, devoting her free time to cheering and comforting others. She spent much of her time volunteering as a Pink Lady at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, the local food bank, her church council and was frequently found welcoming members as well as guests to her beloved church. During her time at Alexian, much of which she, herself was sick, you could often find her in the halls or at the nurses' station greeting residents and visitors. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Armstrong; brother, Claude Moore; nephew, Eric Wynne and grandson, Jason Tracy.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Armstrong of Tracy City, John (Dawn) Armstrong of Jasper, Larry (Rose) Armstrong of South Pittsburg; brothers, Frank (Joyce) Moore and Billy Moore; sister, Mary (Glen) Wynne; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, July 25th at 2:00 PM with Father Mark Scholz officiating. Interment to follow in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper.
The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg on Friday, July 24th from 6-9 PM with a Rosary service starting at 6 PM CST.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
