Douglas Albert Lowrey, 88, of Guild, TN passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2023.
He was born August 8, 1934, to Albert Walter and Ollie Mae Morgan Lowrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers; Jack, Joe, and Dwight Lowrey, and sisters; Christine Berry, Minnie (Susie) Ballard, Winnie (Bill) Sims, and Betty Cargile.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wilma Keef Lowrey, and children; Kathy (Warren) Quarles and Dr. Michael (Sherri) Lowrey.
The joy of his life was his grandchildren; Amanda (Cory) Glenn, Whitney (Chris) Blevins, Malorie (Andrew) Griffith, Morgan (Colton) Kenimer, and Hunter (Hannah) Lowrey and his great-grandchildren; Allie, Audrey, and Leah Glenn, Lane, Connor, and Baron Blevins, Claire and Davis Griffith, and Hattie and Nora Kenimer. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Martin, and several nieces and nephews.
Doug met the love of his life, Wilma, riding the school bus to Marion County High School from which he graduated in 1954. They were married on December 8, 1956. In the early years of their marriage, he worked at various jobs, including dipping and selling minnows to support his young family. He began working in 1955 for Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railroad and began a long career in railroading. Although he retired in 1998, his love and fascination with trains never ended.
He was a Christian and a faithful member of Whiteside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years.
Doug loved Marion County football and kept up with the Warriors long after he was no longer able to attend games.
He played baseball and hunted in his younger days, but his favorite activity was Jack fishing at Nick-A-Jack Dam. On bitter cold evenings, he could be found there fishing from "His Rock".
Pallbearers will be Cory Glenn, Chris Blevins, Andrew Griffith, Colton Kenimer, Hunter Lowrey and Charles York.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. (CST) in the chapel of Rogers Funeral Home, Jasper, TN with Reverend Jeff Thornton officiating.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. (CST) as well as Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (CST) prior to the funeral service in the chapel.
Mr. Lowrey will be laid to rest at Hooker Cemetery.
