"Libba" Hammond

Elizabeth "Libba" Anderson Hammond, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2015. She was born on March 6, 1926 in South Pittsburg, TN to David Crockett and Allie Lappin Anderson.

Survivors include her sister, Allie Jane Raulston; a daughter, Patricia H. Richards; sons, Crockett (Debbie), Gary (Debra), Chris (Cindy); eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and youngest son, Grant.

She was a graduate of Stephens College, attended the University of Tennessee, and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Master of Education.

Born way before her time, and wise beyond her years, she spent much of her life devoted to teaching and serving underprivileged youth throughout the South, all while raising her lively children. She was instantly adored by everyone she encountered, and she bestowed unconditional love to all humankind without regard to gender, race, religion, or social status. She was of the Episcopal faith.

She had a passion for writing and drama, and has left behind several books, journals, and letters chronicling uncountable experiences over her lifetime. She has passed on her charming storytelling ability to her sons, who will continue to recount those memories for years to come.
A graveside service will be held at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, TN on February 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm CST.

Funeral arrangements are by Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
