Elzie Ellen Smith, 88, of South Pittsburg, passed away on September 30, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Ellen was born on April 18, 1932, to parents, Horace and Carrie Philpott. She was married for 63 years to the love of her life, J.C. "Dicky" Smith. She was a lady of many talents with a passion for learning. Ellen owned and operated Smith's Upholstery for many years. After becoming a licensed insurance agent, she worked in sales and as an assistant to the Director for a local Funeral Home business. Ellen wrapped up her career serving as a Job Developer for four different agencies: Green Thumb, Experience Works, Meritan, and the Mature Worker Program. She held the record for the number of job placements in Marion, Sequatchie, and Grundy counties, before her retirement at the age of 83.

Ellen considered her proudest and greatest accomplishment to be her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four brothers, Roy, Fred, Cecil, and Carl Philpott. Three sisters also preceded her death: Luella Snyder, Nora Rogers, and Leota Turner.

Survivors include four children: Linda (Johnny) Stone of South Pittsburg, TN, Gary (Deborah) Smith of Signal Mtn., TN, Daniel (Angie) Smith of Chattanooga, TN, and Douglas (Donna) Smith of South Pittsburg, TN. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Wesley (Glenna) Stone, Matt (Holly) Stone of South Pittsburg, Byron (Jessica) Smith of  Lucedale, MS, Heath (Jessica) Smith of Signal Mtn., TN, Ryan (Megan) Smith of Parker, CO,  Alex Smith of Chattanooga, TN, Erica Smith of Chattanooga, TN, Gray Smith of Chattanooga, TN, and Heather (Aaron) Gibson of Hixson, TN., sixteen great-grandchildren,  Jake (Katie) Stone, Jared, Jace, and Jackson Stone, Braxton, Slayton, and Madi Stone, Autumn and Caleb Smith, Sydney and Samantha Smith, Rylie, Rhett, River, and Savannah Smith, and Lilly Smith; one sister, Patsy Matyas of Berkley, MI.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 2:00 CST, at Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Byron Smith officiating.

Pallbearers will be Heath Smith, Wesley Stone, Matt Stone, Alex Smith, Gray Smith, Jake Stone, Jace Stone, Jared Stone and Ryan Smith.

Interment will follow at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. (CST) at Rogers Funeral Home 400 Laurel Ave. South Pittsburg TN 37380.
