Obituary

Eschol Dexter Hughes died peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at home where he lived with his daughter, Myrna, in Hixson, TN. He would have been 90 years old on Thursday.He was born on January 24, 1918 in Bledsoe County, TN to the late Dexter and Annie McWilliams Hughes. He was a graduate of South Pittsburg High School where he met his late wife Hilda Virginia Young. They were married on January 4, 1942. Both were members of South Pittsburg First Baptist Church for over 50 years.He was preceded in death by his older brother, James Hughes, of Knoxville, TN. He is survived by his only child, Myrna Harrison; two granddaughters, Ela Kabiri Browder and husband Cullen of Cary, NC, and Holly Kabiri Wood and husband Wes of Signal Mountain, TN; great-grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Browder and Isabella and Mia Wood. He is also survived by one brother, Joseph Quentin Hughes and wife Jewell, two sisters-in-law, several nephews, nieces, and cousins.He was a World War II Veteran serving four years with two of those years in the South Pacific as a Medic. He proudly served as Marion County Judge for 24 years from 1958 until 1979 while also running a farming operation for over 30 years. He has touched many lives and will be greatly missed by family and friends.Funeral services will be conducted at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 10 AM CST on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 with Reverend Charlie Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM CST at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
