Obituary

Mrs. Estelle Thompson Wiesener Pointer was born Monday, December 23, 1907, in Matthews, Indiana. She passed away on Friday, September 14, 2007, at her home in Soperton, Georgia, at the age of 99 years.Her childhood years were spent in Morrison, Viola and Altamont, Tennessee, and her later years were spent in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, Bridgeport, Alabama, Viola, Tennessee, and then toward the end of her life she moved to Cherokee, North Carolina, and then Soperton, Georgia, where she was cared for by her daughter, Ruth Atnip and other members of her family. She and her first husband, George Wiesener, owned and operated Wiesener's Cafe, a restaurant in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, which became famous for its ice cream.Estelle was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She and her first husband, George Wiesener, attended the Richard City Church of Christ for years, where Brother Jim Warren was the minister. Later in her life she married Tom Pointer of Viola, Tennessee, and they had several wonderful years together. The grandchildren and many others affectionately knew her as "Gaga." She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Daisy Ophelia Thompson; her two husbands, George Wiesener and Tom Pointer; her two brothers, Joe and Tom Thompson and her sister, Willie Mae Roach.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Charles Atnip; nine grandchildren and their spouses, David and Gladys Atnip, Sr., Gretchen and Gene Brzozowski, Stephen and Gay Atnip, Sr., Paul and Nancy Atnip, Timothy Atnip, Jeannie and Keith Wolfe, George and Melissa Atnip, Martha and Larry Stewart, Robert and Anna Atnip; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Blackburn.Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home, Thursday, September 20, at 2:00 PM, CDT, with Ministers Jim Warren and Bill Helm officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 19 from 4 - 6:30 PM CDT, at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
