Obituary

Ethel Lusk Burnett May of Sequatchie, TN passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 at Rivermont Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Pittsburg, TN. She was born in Stanley, Marion County, TN on May 17, 1915 to John Lusk and Laura A. "Della" Brown Lusk, pioneer family of Marion County, TN. Mrs. May was preceded in death by her first husband Charles Horace Burnett and by her second husband Lawrence V. May, as well as brothers Thomas McDonald Lusk, Robert Marshall Lusk, Pleasant Monroe Lusk, Andrew Jackson Lusk and a sister Mary Lucinda Lusk. Mrs. May enjoyed membership in the Order of the Eastern Star in Jasper and the Veterans' Auxillary. She attended the Coppinger Cove Baptist Church. Mrs. May was a wonderful and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her life and kind nature will continue to inspire not only her family but all of the friends whose lives she touched through the years. Family members left behind include her son, Charles Horace Burnett, Jr. of Sequatchie, TN; daughters, Marilyn (Hugh P.) Garner of Signal Mtn., TN and Jo Ann (Daniel Leslie) Butler of Williamsburg, VA. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include Daniel Lesley Butler, Jr., his wife Lora and their son Nicholas Leslie Butler of Atlanta, GA ; Lance Butler and wife Audrey and their two children Chelsea Nicole and Zachary Jordan Butler of Lexington, KY; Hugh Griffith Garner and wife Sarah and their two daughters Jessica Anne and Margaret Mary Garner of Whiteville, NC; and Paige Garner Morse and her two children Paige Marie and Hugh Thomas Morse of Signal Mtn., TN. The family wishes to thank Dr. Frances Barnett and the staff of Rivermont Care and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care and concern for Mrs. May and her family. If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to Coppinger Cove Baptist Church c/o general delivery, Sequatchie, TN 37374 or to Lasater Cemetery c/o Jim Holtcamp, 144 Green Meadow Dr., Sequatchie, TN 37374. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm CST on Fri. Aug. 24 at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper,TN. Burial will take place after the services at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Mike Teague and grandson Hugh Griffith Garner will conduct the services. Visitation will occur Thurs. Aug. 23 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm CST at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper, TN.
