Obituary

Mr. Francis C. Barker, 84, of South Pittsburg, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 in a Chattanooga hospital after a short illness. He was a retired lawyer, practicing in South Pittsburg and Tracy City, former General Sessions Judge for Marion County, served as Executive Director of South Pittsburg Housing Authority and a commissioner and Recorder for the City of South Pittsburg. He was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga where he was Student Body President and a member of Who's Who, and The University of Virginia Law School. In World War II, he served in the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment, Second Armored Division in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was wounded in action in October of 1944. He was a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was active in Republican politics throughout his adult life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Jerome Vance Barker and Corrine Teague Barker, brothers, Joe M. Barker and Luther V. Barker. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Borden Barker, two step-children, Pamela Borden of South Pittsburg, David Borden (Lynne) of Hartselle, AL; two grandchildren, Brittany Borden of Tuscaloosa, AL and Brad Borden of Hartselle, AL; niece, Jeanne Henley of Rockwood, TN; nephews, Judge Joseph V. Barker of South Pittsburg, John Barker of Richland, WA. Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Monday, May 1, 2006 at 2:00 PM CDT with Rev. Harold Borchert and Rev. Pat Fife officiating. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 30, 2006 from 5-9 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg. Pallbearers will be John Thompson, Gene Hunt, Jere Brown, Charles R. Walker, John Cullom, Jack Fahl, Kenneth Roberts, Ronnie Blevins and Harold Seals.
