Linus E. "Gene" Merrell, 66, of the Sewanee-Monteagle Properties community passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012 after a short illness.

Gene was born in Alabama and raised in Pueblo, Colorado. He was employed by Dunlap Stone since 2001, working at their Jasper location and was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Army, serving from 1966-1967. He lived in West Palm Beach, Florida for many years before moving to Marion County.

He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Trudy Merrell; three children; three step-children; twelve grandchildren; two brothers and one sister.

A memorial service will be held in West Palm Beach, Florida at a later date.

Arrangements were entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
