IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geneva Massengale
Gibson
May 31, 1925 – March 25, 2019
On March 25, 2019, Geneva M. Gibson won her earthly battle with cancer and joined her beloved Jack in Heaven's Eternal Celebration.
Geneva was born to Roy and Lyla Lea "Lena" Massengale on May 31, 1925 in Whitwell, Tennessee. On November 4, 1941, at the tender age of 16, she married Jack Gibson of South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
Geneva lived in Tennessee most of her early life with the exception of a time during WWII when she was a young Navy wife. At that time, she made the San Francisco area "home". In 2016, Geneva moved to The Blake at Township, Ridgeland, Mississippi. Never one to meet a stranger, she made friends as soon as she moved to Mississippi.
Throughout her life she involved herself with creative activities. She enjoyed indoor gardening, china painting, craft classes, traveling, dining out, the company of friends and telling funny jokes.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lena Massengale, her half-brother, Bill Massengale and her husband, Arthur J. "Jack" Gibson, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Lyla Elliott (Mac) of Madison, Mississippi, Jackie Torrence of Birmingham, Alabama, Alicia Stuart (Bill) of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, and Johneece Lewis (Gary) of Grandview, Tennessee. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dorothy White, Tonia White, Bridgett Keys, and Inez Porter for the devotion and loving care they gave Geneva.
Visitation will be at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Central time followed by a graveside funeral service at 2:30 p.m. at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tennessee.
