Mr. George E. Cardwell, 99, formerly of Guild, TN died Thursday, November 12, 2009 in a Michigan nursing home.
The ninth of ten children born to the late Frank Albert and Mary Louise Williams Cardwell, he lived in Lenoir City, TN until the age of 8, then lived in Knoxville, Chattanooga and Cleveland, TN. He was employed as a utility worker in the steel and automotive manufacturing industries.
He met his late wife, Laura Mae Reed Cardwell while living in Chattanooga and they were married on the courthouse steps in Jasper on September 8, 1928. They moved their family north and George worked in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan until his retirement in 1972, when they returned to Guild, TN. When he was able, Mr. Cardwell attended Guild Baptist Church.
His beloved Laura died in 1986 and four years later, he moved to Michigan to be near his daughters, Betty McKenney and Nancy Miller and grandchildren, Marla M. Marx, Dr. Mark McKenney, Marcia Miller and Michelle M. Evenson.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 1pm Central time on Monday, November 16, 2009. Interment will follow in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.
