Obituary

Dr. George P. Beene, Jr., 74, died on Tuesday, July 24 with his wife and three children by his side. A descendant of Sequatchie Valley pioneer families, he was preceded in death by parents George Patton and Anna Lee Walker Beene. Dr. Beene graduated from Marion County High School and was inducted into the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the Univerity of Tennessee and the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Little Rock, Arkansas for more than thirty years and was a member of all state and local dental societies. Dr. Beene was elected to the Little Rock School Board of Directors and served as secretary from 1970 to 1973. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army. He is survived by wife, Barbara Beene, daughters Betsy (Granville) Fryer of Franklin, TN, Carol (Jon) Moore of Conway, AR, and son Charles Patton (Melissa) Beene of McComb, MS; seven grandchildren, Wesley Fryer, Michael P., Adam, and Angela Beene, and Charlotte, Tracey, and Robert Moore. Also surviving are a sister, Anne Brown of Nashville, brother, L. Robert Beene of Cleveland. TN, and a dear aunt, Leona Walker Roberts of Huntington Beach, CA, and other relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper, TN on (Friday, July 27) from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Graveside services at the Bean-Roulston Graveyard will be conducted by the Rev. James Patterson and assisted by Michael Beene at 11:30 on Friday, July 27. Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Gerald K. Johnson, James M. Adams, Craig Williams and R. John Abercrombie of Little Rock, AR; William L. Moore, Maumelle, AR; B. William Ferguson, Cookville, TN; W. Bryant Gilbreath, Signal Mountain, TN; Dallas B. Brown, Harlan Lewis, Bill McClanahan and Jere Graham of Jasper, TN; Dr. James M. Hall, Chattanooga, TN.; Cal Foster of Russellville, AR; and members of Romeo's Lunch Club. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to the Jasper Regional History Museum Assn. Inc., c/o Barbara Holloway, P.O. Box 35 Jasper, TN 37347, or the charity of choice.
