Gladious Slaughter Lowrance, of South Pittsburg, TN died Sunday, March 5, 2017 in a local nursing home.

The daughter of the late Lee and Charlotte Gray Slaughter, she was a graduate of McReynolds High School in South Pittsburg, TN, Knoxville College and Atlanta University, and was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She retired after many years as a social worker for the Knoxville Community Development Corporation. During the time she lived in Knoxville, she was a very active volunteer with St. Mary's Hospital and spent most Sunday afternoons visiting elderly shut-ins after church. She was the oldest member of Randolph United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lowrance; brothers, Roy, Homer Lee, Henry, Tandy and Floyd Slaughter; and sisters, Rosie McCain, Leona Slaughter, Eleanor Slaughter and Lula Bivens.

She is survived by her son, Roger Lowrance of Bridgeport, AL; daughter-in-law, Coretta Lowrance; Grandsons, Daqwan and Keshawn Lowrance of Birmingham, AL; great-grandson, Braiden Lowrance of Birmingham; nieces, Audrey Gail Slaughter of South Pittsburg, Sharon Peebles and Bonnie Butler both of Huntsville, AL, Robin Wood of Montgomery, AL; several other nieces, nephews and family members; special friends, Margaret Burton of Greensboro, NC, Garlinda Burton of Nashville, TN; Jacqueline Lovelace of Atlanta, GA, Mable Reid of Victoria, TN, and Patricia Robinson of South Pittsburg.

Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 1:00pm Central time on Friday, March 10, 2017. Interment will be in Anderson Cemetery in Jasper, TN.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00 Noon until service time on Friday, March 10th at the funeral home.
