Obituary

Harold John Holloway, age 84, went to be with the Lord on September 17, 2013. Harold was survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Runyon Holloway, son, Kenton Holloway and wife Susie of Chattanooga, granddaughter, Melissa Holloway of Chattanooga and sister, Clara Vandagriff of Powells Crossroads as well as various nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther J. and Maude Christian Holloway and a sister, Dorothy Beard.
Harold was a long-time active member of Jasper First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until his health began to fail. He was then elected as deacon emeritus and was presented a certificate which read: "As a man full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, First Baptist Church confers upon him the title of deacon emeritus for his faithfulness in ministry and service to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to God's church."
He taught his beloved men's Sunday school class for over 40 years and considered these men as his brothers-in-Christ. Harold was also a member of the church choir and served as a trustee. He was a member of the Sequatchie Valley Baptist Association board of directors and participated in numerous mission trips.
Harold was a Korean War veteran serving in the Fighting 45th Division, K Company and reached the rank of Sgt. First Class in 13 months. He was severely wounded in the Battle of Chorwon Valley on April 22, 1952 and spent the next year in Army hospitals. Harold was awarded two Purple Hearts for his injuries.
Harold worked for 33 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Jasper, TN. Prior to postal employment he was a partner with his father at Holloway & Son Gulf Service in Whitwell.
He was a graduate of Whitwell High School where he earned all-state honors in football and all Tennessee Valley Conference honors in basketball.
Services will be held at Jasper First Baptist Church on Friday, September 20th at 3:00 PM central time with Rev. David Grisham and Rev. Hershel Powell presiding. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 19 from 6-8 PM at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
The men of Harold's Sunday school class will serve as active Pallbearers.
Sam Lambert, Sam Summers, John Holden, Dewey Gilliam, Derrick Blevins, D.W. Ross, Howard Swafford, Claude Holloway, Robert McVey, Frank Henderson and Melvin Turner.
