Henry Mack Nation of South Pittsburg, TN died Monday, September 21, 2009.
Mack, who turned 90 on August 26th, and his sister, Kat, who turned 95 on August 29th recently celebrated their birthdays together with about 100 family members and friends in Cordova, AL.
Born in Birmingham, AL, to Ben and Mardie Nation, Mack spent his youth in Cordova and then worked with his dad in construction. While on a job in Skyline, AL he met Edna Storey, and they married in 1942. He served in the Navy during WWII as a Seabee in the US and the Philippines, returned home to the construction business, and moved his family to South Pittsburg in 1950 to build and run the Southport drive-in theater. In 1959, he returned to construction and for over 40 years he designed, engineered and built numerous healthcare, manufacturing and office buildings locally and across the southeast.
Mack served as a City Commissioner in South Pittsburg and was active on numerous industrial and civic boards. He was an avid bass fisherman and a lifetime Mason and Shriner. Mack modeled respect and integrity in every deed, offered help to anyone in need and rose to any occasion. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; brother, Ben Nation and sister, Nelda Libbert.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara and son-in-law, Mike Kirkpatrick of Stockton, CA; sisters, Kathlyn Jent of Cordova and Jean Brown of Missouri City, TX and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, September 24th at 1 PM Central. Mr. Nation will be buried next to his wife, Edna at Henegar Memorial Park in Henegar, AL following the funeral service.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Central time on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Closer Walk Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, 306 5th Street, South Pittsburg, TN 37380.
