Howard (Corkie) Eugene Owens, age 90, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Howard was born in Chattanooga to the late Joe and Fronia Owens. Howard attended Kirkman High School until joining the Navy in 1952. Howard served in the Navy during the Korean War.  After the Navy he worked at The Mueller Company as a machinist until his retirement.  He was married to his loving wife Virginia Ruth Owens for over 60 years.

Howard enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Lookouts fan and could be found with his buddies behind the 3rd baseline at all the home Lookouts games.  He also enjoyed spending time at the YMCA with his good friend Rufas.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia (Ruth) Owens; grandson, James (Wes) Brett; brothers, Ralph, J.R., and Lamar Owens; sisters, Lorene Grider and Minnie Cannon.

Howard is survived by his sons and daughter, Scott Owens (Linda), Janet Brett (Jim), Michael Owens (Angela); grandchildren, Jake Brett Ksenia), Brittney Murphy (Cole), Jordan Skolfield (Matt), Kendall Cooper (Rem), Zachary Owens, Kaitlyn Randall (Christopher) and 6 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.  on Friday, February 16, 2024 with Navy military honors and Pastor Bill Harvey officiating the graveside service.

There will be no public visitation.
