Ira Eugene Whitlock, 75, of Chattanooga, Tennessee died Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
The son of the late Luder G. & Juanita Ostelle Nessmith Whitlock, he served for five years in the United States Navy as a Data System Technician, 2nd Class. A third-generation graduate of the University of Florida, he was an avid Florida Gators fan, and loved to play golf.
Ira spent his career working as an electrical engineer. His most recent venture was, Precision Renewable, which he owned and operated with his friend and business partner, Michael Walker. Their business was building industrial solar energy farms all over the country.
During an extended visit to be near family in Houston, Texas, his health unexpectedly declined, and he spent most of the last two years at Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute, and Kindred Hospital. The family will be forever grateful to those two facilities, their doctors, and staff, for the kindness shown and care given to Ira during his time there.
In addition to his parents, Ira was preceded in death, in April of this year, by his son, Kevin Eugene Whitlock.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Rebecca Blevins Whitlock; son, William Holland (Karen) Whitlock, of Houston, Texas; step-son, Ryan Ware, of Kimball, Tennessee; grandchildren, Harrison Whitlock, Althea Whitlock, Paige Ware (Jacoby) Reynolds, and Chase Ware; great-grandchildren, Mollee Reynolds and Aiden Whitlock; brothers, Rev. Luder (Mary Lou) Whitlock, of Orlando, Florida, and Earl (Joyce) Whitlock, of Tampa, Florida; sister, Vicki (Paul) Flemm, of Tucson, Arizona; several nieces and nephews.
