Obituary

Jackson Tanner Fahl, age 92, of Chattanooga, TN, was born March 31, 1921, in Kimball TN, and died Christmas Eve, 2013, in Chattanooga after his long life ended with a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, A.J. Tanner, of Manchester TN; his mother, Irene Ambrester Tanner Fahl, of Chattanooga, and his adoptive father, Earl Cornell Fahl.

He enlisted and served in the Air Force during World War II, flying out of Guam; and in addition was a bombardier instructor at Deming Air Force Base in New Mexico. After World War II, following his discharge as a lieutenant, he came back to Tennessee briefly only to return to the Southwest where he spent the major portion of the rest of his lifetime, living in El Paso, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Phoenix, Tucson, and Green Valley, Arizona areas for over fifty years, returning to Tennessee to live out his last years. He had owned and operated several insurance agencies, primarily in New Mexico and Arizona, and was a longtime USF&G representative. He was a graduate of South Pittsburg High School and of the Episcopal faith.

He is survived by his half-sisters, Barbara Fahl Kelley of Chattanooga TN, Jeannie Tanner Nelson of Brevard, NC, Joy T. (Bill) Bomar of Memphis, TN, Jackie Tanner Jones of Jackson, TN, and several nieces and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014, at 2:00 pm Eastern Time in Cumberland View Cemetery, Kimball, TN with Father Jon Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church Episcopal, either South Pittsburg or Chattanooga.
