Council
July 10, 1916 – August 1, 2010
James Alberta Council, 94, died August 1, 2010 at a local hospital.
The daughter of the late Ethel & John Council, she served in various capacities at Randolph United Methodist Church, including superintendent of Sunday School, adult teacher, secretary of the administrative board, youth worker, pianist for the junior and senior choirs, most recently, as pianist for the youth choir.
Ms. Council received her education degree through studies at Morristown College, A&I State University, and New York University. She retired as an English teacher from South Pittsburg High School in 1980. Ms. Council was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association, the National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, Inc., also, Vice-President of Tennessee NAACP.
In June of 2009, after she lost her eyesight, her care was entrusted to her niece, Jamie Williams and her husband, Robert.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 9th at noon Central time at Randolph United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg. Interment will follow in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN.
The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg from 4-6pm Central time on Sunday, August 8th.
