Obituary

James "Jim" Newton Haskew Sr. (82) of South Pittsburg, Tennessee passed away after a brief illness on September 17, 2021. While a gentleman with a mischievous side, he was the loving patriarch of his family.

Jim was a lifelong resident of the Battle Creek Community and a graduate of South Pittsburg High School. Jim joined Vulcan Materials Company in 1959, worked with them 38 years, and retired from the company in 1996. While his professional career was spent with Vulcan Materials, his passion was spending time on the farm tending to his livestock. With his big smile and bright sense of humor, he touched the lives of everyone around him.

Jim is preceded in death by parents, Newt & Martha Anderson Haskew, and sister, Sally Haskew Payne.

Jim is survived by his best friend and wife of 61 years, Joyce Gilliam Haskew, son, James Haskew Jr. (Shannon), and daughter, Michell Haskew Clayton (James).  Jim is also survived by his three-favorite people in the world, his grandchildren: William Owen Witt Jr., Emily Elizabeth Haskew, and Anna LaRue Witt.

A memorial service for Jim's life will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. (CST) in the chapel of Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg with Rev. Jeff Nelson officiating.

Interment will follow at Gilliam Cemetery in Battle Creek.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. (CST) and on Tuesday, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. (CST) September 21, 2021 prior to the funeral service in the chapel.

Pallbearers will be Mike Haskew, Rance Haskew, Bert Gilliam, Randy Gilliam, John Birdwell,  Kenneth King, Roy Ridley and Jim Merriman.
