James "Jim" Turney

James "Jim" Turney, 92, of Kimball, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Jim was born and raised in South Pittsburg to the late Gilbert and Effie (Hudson) Turney. He graduated from South Pittsburg High School in 1952.

Jim spent many years working alongside his parents in the family grocery store, Turney's Grocery, where he served the community until 1985. He later joined the Marion County Highway Department as a night watchman, a role he proudly held until his retirement in 2012.

A man of deep faith, Jim was a longstanding member of Kimball Tabernacle of Praise Church. He had a lifelong love for football and was an enthusiastic Tennessee Volunteers fan. He also enjoyed personally collecting the scores of his local football teams. Above all, Jim cherished time spent with his family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Nathan Eric Turney; his sisters, Kathlyn Hill and Shirley Blevins; and his father- and mother-in-law, Clyde and Berthaline Dawson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn (Dawson) Turney; his grandchildren, Kayley and Seth Turney; his daughter-in-law, Paula Turney; and his extended Dawson family: Ernest and Sadie Dawson, Oma Dawson, Melvin and Frances Dawson, Royce Dawson, and Phillip and Danette Dawson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Shereen (Blane) Stewart and Bob (Lisa) Hill; great-nieces and great-nephews Aspen (Justin) Raines and James Ed Hill; as well as many beloved friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (CST) at the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home, with Pastor Darrell Nunley officiating.

Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Jasper, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (CST), and again on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10:30 to 12:00 p.m. (CST) prior to the funeral service in the Jasper Chapel.

Pallbearers are Erik Moree, Josh Guess, Blane Stewart, James "Ed" Hill, Jeff Blizard, and Donnie Moreland.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the friends, neighbors, and loved ones who have offered their kindness, support, and prayers. A special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga.
