Obituary

James Newton Wilson (Buddy), 82, of Jasper, TN, passed away from this life Saturday, April 15, 2023.

Buddy was born on September 19, 1940 in Bridgeport, AL, to Dorothy Lilian Lee Wilson (Dot) and James N. Wilson (Spriggy).  Buddy attended Bridgeport High School Graduating in 1958.  After Graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving his country on the USS Shangri-LA as a CV8-38 with fighter Squadron 62.

Buddy married Phyllis Teeters Wilson in March 1959. Buddy was a brick mason by trade and the proprietor of Lucifer's Liquors for 38 years.

Buddy was a gifted artist, an avid horseman and a lover of sailing.

He had an incredible sense of humor, enjoyed making people laugh with a penchant for spinning a good yarn.  He was a giving and caring man and will be missed by all that knew him.

Buddy was preceded in death by parents, James Newton Wilson, Sr. and Dorothy Lilian Lee Wilson and sister, Jimmie Lou Wilson.

Buddy leaves to hold his presence in their memories his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Wilson; daughters, Renea Wilson and Angie Wilson; grandchildren, Nicholas Wilson, Courtney Wilson and John Wilson; sister, Kay Wilson Cowan; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Teeters Walker and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, dear cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (CDT) at Christ Episcopal Church 302 3 rd St. South Pittsburg, TN, 37380 prior to the funeral service at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) at the church with The Rev. Kim Hobby, Rector officiating.

Buddy will be laid to rest at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Bridgeport, AL.

The pallbearers will be Nicholas Wilson, John Keahey Wilson, John Gunter, Kevin Layne, Herschel Bettis, Henry Lodge.

The Honorary Pallbearer will be John Gunter, Sr.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Christ Church Episcopal, 302 3 rd St. South Pittsburg, Tn 37380 where he was a member.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home of Jasper, TN.
