James A. Wooten, 65, of Ontario, CA, formerly of South Pittsburg, TN, went to be with his Lord at 9:55 pm on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Chino Valley Community Hospital following a brief illness.
Born March 6, 1945 to the late Lawson Wade and Lila Mae Hill Wooten, he was of the Catholic faith and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in South Pittsburg, TN during his years here. He graduated from McReynolds High School in 1963 and went on to serve for three years in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his military service, he began working for Memorial Hospital, then worked for Combustion Engineering. He continued to pursue his education during his working life, receiving his Associate's Degree from Chattanooga State Technical Community College. He continued his education at the College of William and Mary, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1976, then continued on to West Los Angeles School of Law, graduating in 1985 with his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. He was currently employed by Lockheed Martin Corporation as a Quality Assurance Analyst.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Ann Cook Gibbs.
He leaves to mourn, son, Staff Sergeant Lawson Wade (Carmen) Wooten II of West Point, NY; daughter, Felicia (Donald) Wooten-Watson of Wahiawa, HI; step-daughter, Andrea Michele (Rlanda) Earvin of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Chloe Wooten, Alexander McArthur Watson, Xavier Maurice Washington and Rodney Lee Shields, Jr.; brothers, Hollis (Herestine) Wooten of Knoxville, Iven (Julie) Wooten of Gilbert, AZ and Roy (Charisse) Wooten of Canton, OH; sister, Mary Nixon of Canton, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.
The family would like to express their great appreciation to Peggy's friends in California for going out of their way to assist Lawson and Felicia during this terribly difficult time. The family would also like to give special thanks and all our blessings to Helene Arnold-Washington for everything she has done. A special gratitude is extended to our mother, Peggy Hudson Evans.
A graveside service will be conducted from the National Cemetery in Chattanooga at 10:30 AM Central Time on Friday, August 27, 2010 officiated by Father Mark Scholz.
The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM Central Time on Thursday, August 26, 2010.
