Mr. Jere Raymond Brown, Sr. of South Pittsburg, TN died Saturday, July 9, 2011 in a local hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Richard City, TN to the late Herbert Sewell and Anna Mae Raulston Brown, he served with the US Army during the Korean War and returned to pursue his interests in business, graduating from McKenzie Business School in Chattanooga, TN. He made his home in South Pittsburg and became Vice-President of LW Loyd, Inc and Atomic Fireworks of Missouri, where he enjoyed 45 years working within the fireworks industry. He was also a longtime member of the Kimball Church of Christ.
Jere Raymond was a gourmet cook and loved spending his free time entertaining and travelling with friends. Whether it was in his home or in a favorite local restaurant, you could often find Jere Raymond playing the piano - one of his other beloved pastimes. His family and friends remember him as a fun-loving, charming man who will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, A.W. "Buddy" Brown, Sewell Brown, Jr. and Robert "Bobby" Brown and two sisters, Jean Cameron and Martha Jo Daniels.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Jane Brown; daughter, Julia (D.H. Brown) Winters; son, Jere (Deena) Brown, Jr. all of South Pittsburg; sister, Rose Phillips of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, Danielle Winters, Josh (Whitney) Winters, Tiffany Brown and Jake Brown; one great-granddaughter, Destiny Winters; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Kimball Church of Christ at 10 am on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 with Billy Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Cumberland View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 11th from 4-8 pm at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeast TN Chapter, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive, Suite 8, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or to the Richard Hardy Memorial School Music Department, 1620 Hamilton Avenue, South Pittsburg, TN 37380.
