Jerry "Chuckles" Childers, 65, of South Pittsburg, TN died Thursday, May 5, 2016 in a local nursing home.

The son of the late James Doyle and Betty Ruth Sharp Childers, he started his working life at the Old Romines Fish Market, then began his law enforcement career with the Bridgeport, AL Police Department, later with Marion County Sheriff's Department, South Pittsburg Police Department, and the Kimball Police Department.

He is survived by his children, Shawn McAlister of Houston, TX, Justin Childers and Amber Childers both of South Pittsburg, TN; granddaughter, Adalynn Grace McAlister of Houston, TX; sister, Glenda (Buster) Faris of South Pittsburg, TN; niece, Candy Anderson; great-nephew, CJ Anderson; and ex-wife, Cindy Swafford of Jasper, TN.

Funeral services will be private.
