Jewell Marie Stagner Carter, 78, of South Pittsburg, TN died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday morning, April 14, 2009.
The daughter of the late Wallace Gordon and Maggie Burrow Stagner, she was a 1947 graduate of South Pittsburg High School. She was also a former Garden Club member and a longtime member of South Pittsburg First Baptist Church. Jewell was a very special lady who touched many lives. Her special talent and favorite hobby was hand-painting china. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Gordon, Glen, Ira, J.B. and Jerry Stagner; sisters, Opal Castle and Lorene Hooper; nephews, Paul Stagner, Cleone Stock and Buddy Castle; and niece, Jan Hooper.
She will be most especially missed by her sister, Vera Lee Stagner Hooper of Chattanooga, TN; brother-in-law, Brad (Gwen) Carter of Jasper; special nieces, Betty Stagner (Bob) Wilkerson and Margaret Stagner Owenby of Newport, TN; numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Lucille Wynne and Pauline Johnson.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of NHC in Dunlap and ValleyView Assisted Living in Whitwell for the exceptionally loving and tender care given to Ms. Carter during her time there.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 2 PM CDT with Reverend Charlie Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper.
The family will gather with friends for visitation on Wednesday evening from 6-9 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
