Obituary

Mrs. Jo Scharer Collins, 84, of South Pittsburg, TN died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at her home following a brief illness.
The daughter of the late William Preston and Annie Free Scharer, she was a lifelong, avid South Pittsburg High School Pirates fan, having played basketball there during her high school years. She began her working career at Oak Ridge during the construction of the Atom bomb and continued her work life with Roper Corporation, South Pittsburg Knitting Mill, HeadStart and then retiring from Mead Container Corporation. She was also a lifelong member of the Sweetens Cove Primitive Baptist Church.
Jo was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Collins; sister, Bertha Stephens and adopted brother, Chester Powell.
She is survived by her children, Gayle (David) Kirk of Jasper, Lynn Price and Cindy Collins both of South Pittsburg; grandchildren, Jackie Kirk, Allen (Karina) Kirk and Mike (Karen) Kirk all of Jasper and Brandon Price of South Pittsburg; great-grandchildren, Bailee Kirk, Brett Kirk and Dylan Price; special friends, Mike, Sally & Laura Leigh Deweese of Baton Rouge, LA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 3 PM CST on Monday, August 24, 2009 with Reverend David Clay officiating. Interment will be in Beene-Roulston Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 6-9 PM CST and Monday, August 24, 2009 from 9 AM until service time at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Marion County Warrior Football Program, c/o Kim Tate, 22 Courthouse Square, Jasper, TN 37347 or the South Pittsburg High School Athletic Fund, 717 Elm Avenue, South Pittsburg, TN 37380.
