Statement from the Family of Judge John Harvey "Cam" Cameron Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judge John Harvey "Cam" Cameron Jr., Circuit Court Judge for Tennessee's 12th Judicial District, who died on August 3, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at home.

Judge Cameron dedicated his life to the law and to helping others, serving the community he was born and raised in for nearly two decades as an attorney before his election to the Circuit Court bench in 2022. A third-generation attorney with family ties to the Sequatchie Valley dating back over a century, he was motivated to pursue law after working directly with vulnerable children and adults as a protective service worker, and he carried that commitment to protecting others throughout his career. He will be deeply missed by all those that knew him.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
