John Douglas Mayfield, 82, of South Pittsburg, passed away at his home, Tuesday, June 17, 2008, following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late William Arthur and Bertha Elizabeth Ladd Mayfield. He was a retired employee of Rogers Funeral Homes, after having given over 31 years of faithful and truly dedicated service. He was also the Assistant Manager at Paul's Food Market for over 20 years and a member of Wesley Methodist Church. A former member and elder of South Pittsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church he was a Past Worshipful Master of Lodge #515 F&AM and had served on the Board of the Chester Powell Senior Apartments.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Gibson Mayfield; sisters, Frances Wileman, Doris Murray and brothers, Albert, Raymond, Jerry and Tommy Mayfield.
He is survived by one daughter, Sammy Jane Mayfield of South Pittsburg; brothers, William Arthur (Jean) Mayfield, Jr. of Chattanooga and Bob (Louise) Mayfield of South Pittsburg; sisters, Grace Coffelt and Lois Henley both of Chattanooga, Pearl Rogers of South Pittsburg and Jennie Lou Mayfield of McMinnville; several nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19th at 1:00 PM CDT with Rev. Joe Moore and Rev. Bill Lassiter officiating and assisted by Niece, Mary T. Newman and Nephew, Dan Mayfield. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery.
The family will gather with friends for visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
