October 3, 1941 – January 17, 2009
John Arthur Goins, 67, of Stevenson, Alabama, died Saturday at his home.
The son of the late John Henson and Mary Elizabeth Emerson Goins, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Annette Goins, and a brother, Arnold Ray Goins.
Mr. Goins was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his nieces and nephews and cared from them as if they were his own. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany, attended Cleveland State Community College and worked at Rockwell International, Duracell Battery for 15 years and retired from TVA Widows Creek Steam Plant in Alabama. A love for life his passion was helping others. A very generous man he volunteered and supported Helping Hands of TVA and many others.
He is survived by his wife, Janice M. Goins of Stevenson, a daughter, Missy (Todd) Ford, of Athens, TN, two grandchildren, Madison and Jackson Ford of Athens, three sisters, Betty (Ed) Cantrell and Judy (Vince) Jones, both of Athens, and Mae Bennett of Nashville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at 7:00 PM, CST, with Rev. Mike Bernard and Judge John Graham officiating.
Interment will be in Stevenson City Cemetery, Stevenson, Alabama with nephews serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 20, from 5-7 PM, CST.
