Mr. John Evans Griffith, 90, of South Pittsburg, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006 in a Chattanooga Hospital.He was a lifelong area resident and the son of the late William Evans and Eula Belle Carroll Griffith. He was a World War II veteran having retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force and was Postmaster for many years in South Pittsburg. He was a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church and Marion Lodge #515 F&AM. He was a former Secretary of the South Pittsburg Rotary Club and was a former American Legion Commandant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Golda Gilliam Griffith and brother, J.R. Griffith.He is survived by his son, John Carroll Griffith of Lynchburg, VA and daughter Rosalind Kay Griffith of South Pittsburg; four grandchildren; sisters, Josephine Bristow of Ooltewah and Ethel Nichols of Huntsville, AL; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Saturday, July 22 at 10:00 AM CDT with Reverend Anthony Grills officiating. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery.The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
