John L. Higdon, 77, of New Hope, TN passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

He was born March 30, 1939 to the late Ted and Ollie Higdon and was a retired truck driver for Porter Warner Industries. He was a member and deacon of Straightway Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his special grandson, Gordon Farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Magdalene Higdon of New Hope; children, Marilyn (Raymond) Howard, Patty (David) Johnson, and Darrell Higdon; grandchildren, Brooke (Kevin) Fontenette, Taylor Johnson and Chandler Johnson; great-granddaughters, Avery Fontenette and Mary-Alden Fontenette; his faithful companion, his cat, Baby; sisters, Betty Brooks, Helen Howard, Lucille York, Catherine Neely, Shirley Ann Talley and Patricia Diane Elliott; brothers, Robert Higdon and Tony Higdon; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 3:30pm Central time on Friday, March 10, 2017 with Rev. Sam Whited and Bro. Gary Bone officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, March 8th from 5:00-8:00pm and on Thursday, March 9th from 11:00am-8:00pm Central time at the funeral home.
