Obituary

John Parker Layne, Sr., 89 a lifelong resident of South Pittsburg, TN, died Wednesday, July 2nd in a local nursing home.

The son of the late Patrick Martin and Bonnie Parker Layne, he was the President of JI Brown Tree Company where he worked for 45 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the TN National Guard. Mr. Layne was also a member of South Pittsburg First Baptist Church, Marion Lodge #515 where he was the Past Master, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Alhambra Shrine. In addition to his parents, Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Layne, grandson, Matt Layne and brother, Pat Layne, Jr.


Mr. Layne is survived by his son, John P. (Helen) Layne, Jr., of Signal Mtn.; grandchildren, Bonnie Layne (Chris) McKinney of Rossville, GA, Paul (Andrea) Mayo of Ooltewah, TN, and Kristi (Todd) McAllister of Flintstone, GA; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 11 am Central time on Monday, July 7, 2014 with Chris McKinney officiating. Interment will follow at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, TN with full military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.


The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, July 6th from 5-8 pm Central time at the funeral home with a masonic service beginning at 7:30 pm.
