Obituary

Mr. John Price Rogers, 78, of Jasper, and also known to many as "Buck," passed away Sunday afternoon, July 30, 2006.A native of Marion County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Strategic Air Command, and retired from TVA with 33 years of service. He was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church.Predeceased by his parents, Millard Filmore Rogers and Zella Ross Rogers and brothers, Hershel Rogers, Ross Rogers and Raymond Rogers, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Neva Vandergriff Rogers. Surviving children include Steven Rogers of Jasper, Johnna Doane and Gay Parker both of Roswell, Georgia. Grandchildren include Nicole Yontz of Goodyear, Arizona, Rebecca and Emily Rogers of Jasper, Chelsea and Lauren Doane of Roswell, Georgia and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Julia Yontz of Goodyear, Arizona. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper on Wednesday, August 2 at 1:00 PM CDT with Reverend David Clay officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 1st from 6-9 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper.Pallbearers for Mr. Rogers will be his son, Steven Rogers, nephews, Eddie Rogers, Chris Rogers, Dale Swafford, Jim Ridley and his cousin, George Jackson. Honorary pallbearers include members of his Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church and J.D. Glover of Florence, Alabama.
