Mr. John Henry "Sarge" Schnauffer, Jr., 87, of Jasper, TN died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in a local hospital.A 4-year veteran of the US Navy during World War II and a Retired 22-year veteran of the US Army, serving in Korea and Vietnam, he moved to Jasper after completion of his military service. He worked for several years at US Pipe and was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in South Pittsburg.Sarge was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was also active with Olive Branch Lodge #297, Chattanooga York Rite Bodies, Lookout Commandery, Chattanooga Scottish Rite Bodies, Alhambra Shrine, Jasper Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chattanooga York Rite College 152, Knights of the York Cross of Honor, Knight Crusaders of the Cross, the Royal Order of Scotland and the Knight Masons-Gaelic Chapter.He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Steve Woodfin of South Pittsburg; grandsons, Flint Woodfin of Jasper and Bo Woodfin of South Pittsburg; granddaughter, Stephanie Prince of South Pittsburg; six great-grandchildren, Austin and Brianna Woodfin, Maggie and Mason Prince and Luke and Hope Woodfin; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be conducted from Christ Church Episcopal in South Pittsburg on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11 AM CST with Reverend Stephen Eichler officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening from 6-9 PM CST at the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home.
