July 8, 1923 – February 1, 2018
John Frank Thompson, 94, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 in a local nursing home.
A life-long resident of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late George W. & Annie Smith Thompson, and a longtime member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Democrat Club and the South Pittsburg Lions Club. John was a former Finance Commissioner and Vice-Mayor for the City of South Pittsburg, and was elected to serve two terms as City Mayor.
A 33rd degree Mason, he was a Past Master and 67 year member of Marion Lodge #515 F&AM, having been raised in 1950. He was a member of the Eastern Star, York Rite Bodies, the Red Cross of Constantine, and had been Personal Representative of the SGIC in Tennessee, and Past Venerable Master of the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda & Steve Nelms, of South Pittsburg; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny & Rhonda Thompson, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; granddaughters, Jamie Harrison, of Chattanooga, and Stephanie Boggs, of South Pittsburg; grandsons, John-Paul Thompson and Erek Thompson, both of Hixson, Tennessee, Noah Thompson of Sacramento, California, and Dylan Thompson of San Francisco, California; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Central time on Saturday, February 3, 2018, with Rev. Joe Moore, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time. A Masonic service will held at 1:30 p.m.
Entombment will be at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tennessee.
