Joseph Dewey "JD" Carter, 86, of South Pittsburg, TN died Thursday, February 25, 2016 in a local nursing home.


The son of the late George Dewey and Nora Ethel Case Carter, he was a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry for many years. JD lived in Florida for 43 years, returning to live in South Pittsburg in 1998.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Harmon Carter, sisters, Juanita Carter, Dortha Carter, Joyce Moore and Dalpha Rowell, and brothers, George, Jerie, John and Doyle Carter.


He is survived by his children, Alicia Mason of Bridgeport, AL, Joel Carter of Sanford, FL, Bobby Layne of Wintergarden, FL and Wanda Wright of Trion, GA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Nellon Carter of Jasper, TN and Tommy Carter of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Lois Wynne of Ringgold, GA; several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 2 pm Central time on Monday, February 29, 2016 with Rev. Donnie Moreland officiating. Interment will follow at Bean-Roulston Cemetery.


The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-8 pm Central time on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg, TN.
